Four steps from cart to covered.

The whole process happens at checkout through Flex, our FSA/HSA payment partner. No doctor's appointment needed beforehand. The telehealth consultation happens right in the checkout flow.

1

Add Minnemals to your cart and go to checkout
Shop as normal. When you're ready to check out, make sure you proceed as a guest, not through Shop Pay, PayPal, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. Those express checkout options bypass the standard payment page and cannot process FSA/HSA payments.
Important: If a Shop Pay pop-up appears automatically, exit it and choose "Check out as guest." Using an incognito browser window is the easiest way to avoid being auto-logged into Shop Pay.
2

Select "Flex | Pay with HSA/FSA" as your payment method
In the payment section at checkout, you'll see Flex listed as an option alongside standard credit card payment. Select it. You'll be redirected to a short, private health survey, and no prior diagnosis or prescription required to begin.
3

Complete the $10 telehealth consultation
A licensed provider reviews your health survey answers and determines your eligibility. If approved, you receive a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN), the IRS-required document that officially classifies your purchase as a qualified medical expense. The $10 fee goes entirely to the licensed provider. Minnemals receives nothing from it.
No FSA/HSA card handy? Select Flex anyway and enter a regular credit card. Flex will email you the LMN and an itemized receipt so you can submit for reimbursement through your plan administrator.
4

Pay with your HSA or FSA card and you're done
Enter your HSA or FSA debit card details and complete the order as usual. Sales tax on eligible items is also covered by your health account funds. You'll receive an itemized receipt from Flex for your records which you should save it in case your plan administrator ever asks for documentation.

FSA/HSA spending requires a medical need. Here's what fits.

The IRS requires that HSA and FSA purchases be connected to treating, managing, or preventing a diagnosed medical condition. Minnemals are a strong fit for a number of the most common conditions Flex reviews:

Common condition
Plantar fasciitis
A thin, flexible sole strengthens the intrinsic foot muscles that conventional cushioned shoes have been doing the work of. Minnemals are addressing the root cause, not masking it with arch support.
Common condition
Knee & hip pain
A zero-drop heel restores natural whole-body alignment from the ground up, eliminating the forward tilt that forces knees and hips to compensate with every single step.
Common condition
Weak foot muscles / flat arches
Peer-reviewed research shows that daily wear in a minimalist shoe significantly increases intrinsic foot muscle strength, just from walking. No additional exercises required.
Common condition
Balance & gait issues
The sensory feedback from a 6mm sole gives your brain real-time information about how your foot meets the ground, improving balance, coordination, and movement quality over time.

Worth knowing: Flex determines your eligibility through a private health survey at checkout. You do not need a prior prescription or a doctor's visit. If your purchase is denied, you can pay with a regular credit card and submit the Flex itemized receipt to your plan administrator for reimbursement. Eligibility varies by plan - check with your administrator if you're unsure.

FSA/HSA FAQ.

What is Flex and how does Minnemals use it?
Flex is a healthcare payment platform that enables FSA and HSA spending at checkout for brands like Minnemals. It handles the telehealth consultation, issues the Letter of Medical Necessity, and processes the payment, all within a single checkout flow. You never have to leave the site to visit a doctor first.
What is the $10 telehealth fee for?
The $10 goes entirely to the licensed provider who reviews your health survey and determines your eligibility. It is not a fee charged by Minnemals. This consultation produces your Letter of Medical Necessity, the IRS-required document, that qualifies your purchase as a legitimate medical expense under your plan.
What if I don't have my FSA/HSA card with me?
Still select Flex at checkout and pay with a regular credit or debit card. Flex will email you an itemized receipt and your LMN, which you can submit to your plan administrator for reimbursement. Many plans allow this but check with your administrator to confirm your plan's reimbursement process.
Why can't I use Shop Pay, Apple Pay, or PayPal?
Express checkout options bypass the standard Shopify checkout page where the Flex payment option appears. To use FSA/HSA funds, check out as a guest through the regular checkout flow. An incognito browser window is the easiest way to avoid being automatically logged into Shop Pay.
Is sales tax covered by my FSA/HSA funds?
Yes. Sales tax on FSA/HSA eligible items is also covered by your health account funds when paying through Flex.
What if my HSA/FSA card is declined?
The most common reason for a decline is insufficient funds in the account. Check your balance with your plan administrator before checkout. If your balance is fine but the card is still declined, you can pay with a regular credit card and submit for reimbursement using the Flex LMN.
What if my claim is denied after purchase?
Contact your HSA/FSA administrator directly and provide your Flex LMN and itemized receipt. If you believe the denial was in error, email Flex support directly at support@withflex.com and they will quickly take care of you.
Can I return shoes purchased with FSA/HSA funds?
Yes, see theΒ Shipping & Returns page for Minnemals' return policy. Per IRS rules, any refund on an FSA/HSA purchase must be returned to the same HSA/FSA card used for the original transaction.
Your health dollars. Put them to work.

The Stimulus V2 is $125 and FSA/HSA eligible via Flex. Free shipping on orders over $50. Questions about the process? Email us at info@minnemals.com.
